Oh the 90s sunflower dress. You can find a bagillion of these at your local thrift store/charity shop but it's all about finding the right fit and print for me. Everything was perfect about this dress...the black with the bold realistic sunflowers down to the pleated babydoll effect. The length was a bit too Amish for me, I like my thighs to breathe, so I hacked it! I literally cut the dress before walking out the door...seriously, gotta love my last minute fishtail!

I added denim to the mix and since I decided to go there I might well bust out the chunky shoes too.

Ugh I love grunge revival cause you can dress down but still be overly fashionable!

I seriously find the coolest shit at Romwe, like these faux leather pants! I've been hunting and searching for a pair like these for awhile now. The added bonus is they don't have that obvious stitching across the thighs...I HATE THAT! You know what I'm talking about?

Now I don't normally wear baggy pants since they swallow my boney ass whole but I made an exception to the rules for these bad boys. Gosh I just LOVE THEM, getting all giddy over here!

I decided to keep the outfit classic by adding this crisp white blouse from Crash and Burn which I must say has the best fit on Planet Earth. Usually shirts like these don't fit in the arms and shoulders for me but I was shocked in how tailored it was for my body type...which is fucking skinny btw, lol!

Since I was feeling all "classy" in my B&W so I bought out my homie Double Cs for the ride. Nothing says sophisticated like vintage Chanel, DUH!!

I did have to virginize that shit though with camo, leopard, a shitload of jewelry and a dirty beanie! What can I say I suck at being simple...OH WELL!

OMGeez it's been cold as fringe outside, I'm wearing like 3 pairs of legging under that skirt, CHILL BURR! Mama had to layer up this weekend, which in the end I always look like a fashionable bag/cat lady hippie strutting around town.

As you can see I have some sick obsession with my camo jacket since I try to force it into everything I wear. I just can help it...it's camo, it blends with everything, DUH!

If I'm obsessed with my jacket then I must be bat shit crazy over my vintage Elton John tee. Like I've worn the black off this mofo! I'm scared every time I wash it, it's going explode into dust. I honestly just got into wearing tees a few years ago since they do absolutely nothing for my negative A boobs and give me "a 12 yr old boy body", as the haters like the say! I was lucky enough to find the studded leather chain harness while thrifting and was like "WTF is this?" I instantly put it on and it gave me the power to punch someone in the face! It looks like medieval fighting gear or somethin'. I think it's pretty fucking awesome though, hehe!
And the evil eye harness is from eBay and was only $5. I added two more chains for that DAMN effect! You know when you see something and go "DAMN, where did you get that?" Hmmm mmm, you know what I talking about!

Eat cereal, die happy!! Yeah out of everything in my pantry I only eat the cereal, the rest is for Ephraim's lunch and after school snack. He's a growing boy so he can eat all the crap he wants! Me on the other hand I'm terrified of fast food/processed foods(it's made with Satan knows what) and I like everything dipped/drowned in avocado. Mmmmm avocado! Fresh homemade meals is the best for my body.

Now don't be looking at me sideways. I still eat fried/soul foods, meat, pasta, bread whateves...Mama's on no diet here! I just like to prepare and make it myself so I don't have to worry about no extra shit in my food. Plus I haven't eaten that shit in a year and I must say I feel less tired and weighed down...my energy level is through the roof! No more food comas :(

Anywho...HELLO MY SWEATER!! I'm so effin' obsessed with it, like I've had it on for 3 days straight...it's so warm! I really feel for the yeti who had to be skinned alive for my happiness but this sweater is my life. It's definitely reminds me of my own DIY I did a few month ago (here) and the fact that it's black and white just makes my head explode!

Ask and you shall receive, lol! A lot girls have been asking me what do I use, how do I have great skin and what not. At first I was a little embarrassed cause I use really cheap shit you find at the grocery store or the ghetto beauty supply in the hood! You know what I'm talking about?? hahaha...as long as it works!

Hmmm I don't even know where to begin when it comes to my face. First off I've had psoriasis since I was 12 so I have to take care of my skin or else. Psoriasis is dry flaky patches of skin that can appear on the body and face. I have it on my face in my T-zone and scalp. It's irritating as fuck and I have to use prescribed shampoo and creams!

Lucky for me I've had it under control now for many years and seeing me in person you would never know unless I told you. It's all about exfoliating and more exfoliating! My weekly routine consist of Neutrogena's Microdermabrasion system 3 times a week and on alternate day I use the Queen Helene pomegranate scrub and Clean&Clear face wash together. Then every Sunday Queen Helene mint julep face mask, I wear it like all day.

And to keep my skin looking extra milk chocolate I use Ambi fade cream and cocoa butter. This really helps even out my skin tone and keeps me one shade.

So pretty much the secret to my great skin is to scrub a layer of your face off everyday, lol!

Now growing up as a cheerleader, I used to HATE makeup! Like they used to put so much on me and in all the wrong colors too. I was the only dark-skinned girl so they didn't know what to do with me, other than make me look like a complete idiot! So it's taken me awhile to trust it again and plus I don't really need it. Being extra black is AWESOME cause if I have a blemish or irritation of the skin you'll never see. I mostly use makeup in pictures to be honest! Like I will not wear foundation unless I have to...I'm scared shitless of it. I always think of those girls who look like they're melting or wearing the wrong color in general. But I did my research and Makeup Forever HD is the shizzz!! I only have to use a dot of the liquid foundation for full coverage and hardly any powder. And it stays on FOREVER!! It looks so natural that sometimes I forget I'm wearing it!

I've been wearing my eye makeup the same since my teenage pinup goth days so that just consist of black shadow, liquid eyeliner and mascara. Nothing special, lol!

I hope I was helpful even though everyone has different skin types. Always consult with a dermatologist is you have real skin problems and never go to sleep wearing makeup!!

Over the weekend I got a shitload of questions about being a fashionable Mother.

Do I dress over the top when I volunteer at school? Does my son like it? What do the other parents think? Does it freak out the other kids/his friends? (The questions were way harsh, I had to rephrase them for you.)

Ummm duh and DUH!! This is how I dress when I'm doing regular Mom stuff...grocery shopping, washing the car, PTA meetings, the park, whateves! This is as "toned down" as Mama's gonna get boo!

Of course my son loves it...he thinks I'm the coolest blogger Mom on the planet, Janet! I don't think he would want it any other way.

As for the other parents, hahaha what they have to say about me falls on deaf ears cause I don't

And the children love me...all the little girls think I'm effin cool and always ask me to bring them something from my vintage collection. I actually gave them all heart sunnies for Xmas.

The way I dress has nothing to do with me as a parent. Looking at me you would think I'm all fun and games when it comes to my son but homie don't play that! I'm strict as FUUUUUCK! And I'm raising my son old school when it comes to morals and self respect. Yes ma'am, no ma'am, please and thank you were Ephraim's first words!

I strive to be nothing but the best for him and I'm a stay at home so I can be there for him whenever he needs me. I'm writing this with tears in my eyes cause NO ONE insults me as a parent...you got that!! My son is my life!

I found these neon hotties a few years back thrifting. I remember finding the pants first and being excited just from the frickin' pants alone but as I was standing in line I noticed the same print sticking out a little bit. I did the most daring thing EVER and I got out of line to check. Let me remind you there's AT LEAST 15-20 people behind me and I've been standing in line for 30 minutes!!! So I took a huge fucking risk and found out it was the matching top and also a size small. YEEEEEESSSS, I did the "in yo face dance" and I'm pretty sure everyone was giving me the "you dumb bitch, you just lost your place in line face", hahaha but it was all worth it!

Anywho, I hope you guys had a awesome New Years? My night was a blast and very chill this year. I spent it with my #1 man, Ephraim and we did the countdown together at midnight, followed by Ephraim crying because he couldn't have champagne! So now I know next year to get the boy some sparkling cider, lol!

Overall I'm so ready to kick off 2012. My resolutions this year are to stay on a positive track in life, continue eating non processed foods and fast food and keep being a great mom to Ephraim. Idk, what's your resolutions for 2012?

Oh go ahead and say it...SAY IT!! I know these shoes are ugly as fuck and I loooooove them! As Ephraim put it "gothic clown shoes", lol! I've always liked ugly chunky boots from the 90s but never had the balls to buy them cause I didn't know if I could make them work with my skinny legs.

Well I found these yesterday while thrifting in my favorite spot. It's always a clusterfuck as soon as you walk through the door, so shoes are hard to find. I actually tripped over these mofos and almost broke my neck which I assumed was destiny or a sign from the Vintage Gods. And for 50 cents...SOLD!

I immediately went home and add studs to the front for that extra edge.

I got a new tripod, of course since Trip died on me, but there was this one big box, that strike me as odd since I didn't ask for anything big this year. I was squirming and asking the usual, "What's in there?"

Joel finally folded yesterday and gave me this sweet speech about how much he loves me, supports my blogging and just so proud of me in general. I was like, uh huh uh huh and thinking what the fuck is in that box!

I opened it and literally sound like one of those people you see spazzin out on a youTube video, crying about their new iPad or some shit like that!

OMG he got me a studio lighting kit with all the bells and whistles!! You know the fancy smancy shit you see on a real photoshoot? (The umbrella lights, softboxes and camera remote.) I've been whining about the weather and how it's too cold for outside shots but also too dark for inside ones. I just can't believe he listened!

Man dude Joel is really hookin' my ass up this year!! Love ya boo!

Used them for this post, btw...LOVE THEM!! The lighting is insane, my sitting room is completely dark and it lit that bitch up like BAM! It's just so natural looking. Ugh I can't wait to play around with it more. You know what this means?? MORE POST, FUCK YEEEEAAAAAH!

Oh my Satan this has been the most overwhelming and humbling week ever! Like I'm one of those people if you give me a compliment, I'm going to thank you with the biggest smile, hand on the chest with the "REALLY" face, you know the whole sha-bang! That's just how I was raised. So all this extra attention has got me blushing non-stop.

First I want to thank NiaSays for mentioning me in her vlog. It was insane watching her usual ramblings on youTube and all of a sudden she's talking about how amazing my blog is! I was like WHAT, NO WAY...rewind, replay! So that was pretty cool. You can check that video out here.

I'm still in awe about the whole Teen Vogue thing too! I can spill the beans now...I'm going to be joining their Blogger Boutique which includes...hosting events all over the country/my hometown, appear on the pages of Teen Vogue mag and work with some of the sponsors of T.V.

I almost cried people, CRIED!

My mind is blown but wait there's one more thing...I'm going to be on a Bershka tee! They're an awesome company in Spain that asked to buy my prints a few months ago. Ugh finally got to edit these pics. I've been having the "I just got a new laptop nightmare!" You know what I'm talking about? My old lappy was only 2 years old but compared to my new one it's like a bagillion years old!

First off the screen was white bright and made my blog look extremely different so that took some getting used to. Adjustments left and right, downloading software...BORING! Then Joel thought it would be "AWESOME" to update my Photoshop too. It took me FOREVER to learn PS8 so PS10/Lightroom 3 threw for a loop! I think I cried for 2 days straight.

Overall I am very thankful for all this, trust me I'm nooooo whiny bitch, lol! But it can be very overwhelming when you're trying to run a blog. Especially since technology is not your friend!

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to the old bloggie blog...SHOCKING!

It's been cold as fudge so I've been DIYing my ass off!
I bought the sweater last year from shoptoast but I felt it needed a makeover..you know a little more 2012.
So I did what I do best and I dipped that shit!! Beyond amazed on how it turned out and I love the color fade in the middle...YUM! Plus I saved myself a couple of hundred bucks since they're going for a fortune online, sooooooo yay me!

Now the gloves are just beyond simple. Go to Walgreen's, Rite Aid, Duane Reade's...whateves and buy you some cheap black gloves. Cut off the fingers halfway and add spike/studs. Fingerless gloves are already badass so I just wanted add that extra wtf, hehe!

It's been like 50 degrees out which is fucking cold for a Texan, especially a boney one, so I decided to take pics in my favorite part of the house. "The library" where I draw a lot of inspiration and a safe haven for all Joel's european photo books, Purple and ID magazines.

One thing I love about my hubbie is that he secretly loves fashion and clothes just as much as I do! (He's waaaaay more advanced though and likes hardcore european designers.)

Like the other day I was talking about how rad Abbey Lee dresses and he goes, "I know she has the best personal style in the industry right now!" I don't know about you but that's sex talk to me, lol!!

Speaking of his amazing fashion sense...he got me these lovely Chelsea boots from Zara that I've been drooling over for weeks! Thanks boo and THANKS to all my readers. IT'S NOT SO SIMPLE...

Ugh I fucking love Romwe, they always have the coolest shit without breaking the bank! I always find myself begging my hubbie to buy me stuff...like this sweater, hehe. The pleather patches were just hypnotizing me through the screen, causing me to go into begging mode. I just needed it in my life, you know! Fudge.

Okay on another note, let's talk shoes...

They were quite easy to make. All you need is Jeffrey Campbell Tardy boots (I got my from Nasty Gal for $99 on sale), textured rubberized spray which can be found at your local hardware store exacto knife and spikes/studs from Spikes and Leather on eBay.

First you spray the shoes evenly with 2 coats and allow to dry overnight. Do not over spray, it has a sand paper like texture so the more you spray the more it clumps up.

Next place studs anywhere of your chose. I picked the back of the shoe for a cool effect kinda like the spiked Litas. The studs are 3/4 double prong and the spikes are 1/2 with screw on backs. I also used an exacto knife and power drill to make the holes. Now that's the hard part, whew.

Finally go back through and touch up any chipped paint along the edges and then you're done and done, son!

It doesn't require a lot of skills, just BALLS cause you could be fucking up a pair of JCs. Get a friend to help you and mark before you cut or drill!

So I majority of the day I was wearing just the tee, shorts and yada yada yada. Then I decided to go the Guild Shop by my house which is like a mecca for old broads and antiques. I went to see if any of the overly priced crap I've been secretly stalking have been marked down yet, since the prices go down every month. In the corner of my eye I thought I caught a glimpse of an angel in their clothes section! I was like what the? I don't never really look through the clothes there since I rarely find anything cool.

But low and behold as I'm walking over I see the poncho of MY DREAMS!! Before I even looked at it I checked the price cause the shit there is expensive...only $4.50, mint condition, SOLD!

When I got home the poncho had the WORST FIT EVER, like booooooooo!! It literally ate me alive and made me look kinda homely. So I did what I do best and I cut that mofo right down the center seam and BOOSH a fucking cardi sweater cape that would have cost you a fortune online!

So next time you see a poncho cape that fits you all the wrong way...cut that bitch down the middle for a new look!

I added it to my original outfit to make one big southwestern clusterfuck but I LOVE IT!!

You know how I get all warm and tingly inside when I think of trench coats especially vintage trench coats!! So when I found this one I literally exploded all over the thrift store...blood and guts EVERYWHERE, haha! I was over the moon cause it was my size but when I unbuttoned it, the tag said Jessica....SOLD! I was halfway to the register at that point. The fit was soooooo perfect and I didn't even have to rip out the shoulder pads, which is extremely rare in vintage clothes.

I wore it as a dress since I've been hunting down one online for like ever and it's enough fabric to cover my ass and flaunt my best asset...hello, as if you didn't know, MY LEEEEGS!

Since the coat was fucking awesome I thought the briefcase bag was a given. The details on this bag is BEYOND INSANE, I love that the people are padded so it's kinda 3-D! I don't know if you can see it but in person it's unreal.

The key to matching is that solids and prints are BFFs. The orange cords and the referee tee could have been worn together alone but the cardi of the same colors pull it all in...like DAMN! Add shades, hat, stripe clutch and a shitload of jewelry!! You know how much I love a good shitload of jewelry? Lol!

So try this look at home with some of your favorite vintage pieces but don't go overboard. A subtle solid pop of color can go a long way and it doesn't have to be the same exact color, it can be in the same color family. I seriously HATE that and don't wear ANY jewelry that the same color you're wearing neither, yuck!! Tacky as fuuuuuck! VOMIT!

Yeah I DIYed majority of my outfit, sweater and booties. The sweater was dipped dyed in "black" but turned out this faded navy purple which I LOOOOVE! Which turned this plain old crochet into fucking cro-HEEEEY!! I'm telling you a little bit of Rit dye can go a long way. Even save a life!!

Now the booties I have had like FOREVER and only bought them cause they were vintage Frye boots. LABEL WHORE! They were all kinds of jacked up, knee hi and too wide for my legs so I whacked them by cutting off the top. Then folded it inside until I got the perfect ankle height and sealed with Shoe Goo. Me likey cause they were already worn in, beaten up and scrunched! They was pretty much asking for it!

Now I can stop obsessing over the ones online that are waaaaaay outta my budget, like up to frickin' 200-300 bucks dude! Like my wallet is just hurting thinking about it.

So if you got some old knee hi boots laying around the house I recommend you cut them for a fresh new look!

When I think of sweater dresses, I think of Lisa Turtle from "Saved by the Bell" in those bulky oversized bedazzled sweater concoctions she wore through out the show. Don't get me wrong they were pretty pretty badass back then but nowadays the fit is all kinds of fucked up!

Like it's hard to find a good vintage one without shoulder pads and a turtleneck...good luck!! So I was kinda happy when AA sent me this not so complicated sweater dress. It's light, thin, ribbed and hugs all my bones in the right places.

I decided to go grunge since I finally got my goddamn shoes in the mail...THANK SATAN! I was like losing my fucking mind cause it took almost a month to get here...ok 20 days but geez! They're kinda like me but in the form of a shoe. Plus I can still be tall enough to stand over short guys and make them feel super awkward, hahaha! It's that time of the year when all the leaves fall of the trees and change colors. You get to cuddle up in your favorite light sweater and enjoy the weather on long walks. The hard part for me is that I'm ready to move on to the next season but the weather says, "FUCK NO!" So how in the hell did I get to take pics in fucking suede in this heat??

I kinda cheated...first I had to wake up at the crack of dawn and get ready, take Ephraim to school, get my outfit on, take outside shots first, then work the front porch with a/c blasting. Just like any other vintage collector I'm pretty sure they own a million slip dresses or just old lingerie in general. It's definitely my go to items when I'm feel like dressing "simple". But lately I've been obsessing over them and when that happens I'm bound to make shit!

When I wear slip dresses I like to rock at least 2-3 at a time but it take FOREVER to find the the perfect lengths that match. You know one long, one short or different colors that peek out in the right places?? That shit can drive you crazy or at least me!

So I decided to just start morphing and sewing them bitches together! First I draped the the outer slip for a nice slouchy bubble effect and then sewn it to the white slip so that the lace peeked out perfectly on top. Now I have a slip dress that I can wear in public without getting the side eyes from old ladies. And if you really don't wanna look like a hooker who just got outta bed, just add a shitload of jewelry, accessories and DUH...cute shoes!!

So I'm not Victoria Secret's biggest fan due to my negative A tits but since I found these pajama/palazzo pants while thrifting I can honestly say, "Go Victoria Secret!!"

I haven't been thrifting in awhile so I was on a mission to find greatness. When I found these pants I swear the racks parted as they float towards me as baby cherubs sing and unicorns danced!! I did the "FUCK YEAH" dance and may have scared a few old ladies. I gave them one final look and said, "Gotcha bitch" and headed to the mirror to try them on! ABSOLUTELY PERFECT...size small, omg, wtf, yeeeeeeees!!

What made it even better was my 50% off coupon from Value Village...they cost me ONLY 90 cents!! I gave myself a pat on the back for that shit, Mama did good!!

Soooooo the tribal tee I'm wearing I actually fucked it up first before striking gold! I was trying to fringe it and ended up cutting it crooked (i.e. it looked like shit)!! There was no way I was going to trash this awesome tee so I just cut along the print and got rid of the damage. BOOSH, instant southwestern dream!! I stretched out the sleeves for a little extra flare. LOVE??

Lately I've been DIYing til my fingers bleed, literally...razorblades, OUCH!! It's like I've gone into psycho mode and the only way to cure me is to rip, stud and patch denim pieces, ugh! HELP ME!!

Jk, jk hopefully I'll be able to show you in a couple of days...whenever my fucking studs and shit gets here! I kinda been waiting FOREVER, damn! I hate when something's left unfinished due to not enough materials. It literally haunts me in my sleep! All I think about is how awesome it's going to look when it done, BOOOOOOOOO!

You have to get up pretty early in the morning, in Texas, to shoot in a leather jacket and avoid all the crazies!! But I'm all about taking risk...I'm a bit of a bad ass, hehe!!

So believe it or not but all my shoots start at 7:30-8 am!! :0 Whaaaaaaaat?....yeah, it's not like I'm not already up. I have a kid, HELLO! Plus Joel's alarm goes off at 5:50 am!! How can you go back to sleep after that??

An early start means I can have more time with my family. So for those of you who think blogging is my life...it kinda is, just early in the morning!!

Well I hope you guys LOVE my custom denim pieces cause I'm in the process of making more and putting them in the store. I secretly wish you guys can just send me your shorts/jackets/denim and I customized them for you but that can get a little pricey! Hmmmm, who would be down with that?? I'm anxious to know!!

GIRLS RULE, BOYS DROOL

When I found this wall driving down Montrose I knew it was the perfect match to my unicorn's vomit tie dye dress!! I was like slam the brakes, u-turn and I set my shit up! I'm in love with the colors and all the sun spots...YUMMY!

Oh and the tie dye technique that I use was the vertical pleating and I colored each section individually(separated by rubber bands) with a hair coloring bottle. There's some minor tweaks I wanna fix but I think I did pretty damn good for the first try!! There's lots of tutorials on youtube.

Anywho it's still the same old same old. You know all work, no play makes Virgin very happy! Like the hardest thing for me right now is trying to explain to my 10 yr old that it time to move up to big boy boxer briefs instead of baby tighty whiteys with cartoon characters all over em. He doesn't understand he's getting huge and looks awkward in everything! Ughhhhhhhh...pulling out hair and looking for the closet cliff to jump off of! Hahaha Mom stuff!!

Speaking of "Mom stuff", I better go season my chicken for tonight. I HATE when it's bland, yucko!

I've been obsessing over kimonos for quite sometime but they just ain't in Mama's budget! They can cost anywhere from $150 to like $300, DAMN GINA!!

So you know I had to DIY that shit!! I found this AWESOME caftan dress while moving in my stash of forget me nots. I remember saying "When did I buy this and why the fuck haven't I worn this yet??"

I tried it on asap and it ate me up. I looked like I was on my way to a 70s graduation and all I was missing was the cap, hehe!!

So I grabbed my DIY kit, SCISSORS, and cut that bitch straight down the middle!! Added slasher shorties, Gee Wa Wa's, bun and look Ma I'm a geisha, lol!!

I'm extremely busy, like everyday it's something new and I LOVE IT!! I've always been a work horse and a show pony...yeah you can do both!! But now that I'm taking my blog more seriously I been getting opportunities left and right.
My son even hugged me and told me he's sooooo proud of me and that he loves my blog! Awwwwww kids say the funniest things! So I'm going to keep pushing and opening doors.

Ummmmm lately I've been working on a few DIY projects and have become obsessed with customized studded denim everything!! So I'm having the time of my life in NYC but deep down inside I miss my boy. I thought YAAAAAY FREEDOM...Mama gets to do whatever the fuck she wants! WRONG!!! I see now that being a Mom is what I want...it makes me happy...and that's okay. I use to think maybe I'm obsessed with my own kid since I don't know any Moms personally who would give up their own life for their baby the way I do. My own Mother was like that. She could give a flying fuck about us!! (Does anybody else secretly hate their Mom?) I would NEVER do that to my son!! It breaks my heart just thinking about it. :(

On a lighter note...I have 4 more days left so instead of shedding tears I'm just going to make the best of the time I have left. I still have quite a few friends to meet up with, some I haven't seen in years! It's so weird how all the people I loved in Texas and San Fran now live here. New York is where it's at if you want a lot of opportunities. I'm sooooo jealous of my bestie, Darine. Since I've been here she's done hair for Vice and Vogue!!
